Social Media: Sigh of Relief for Parents | A Real Life Story

A simple solution to big worries

Social media has almost become the primary mode of communication. It has taken over emailing, texting and even emailing in some cases. It is interesting that how unconsciously, the use of social media has brought ease to our daily life communication. You can send a message to a friend and it gets delivered to a mobile phone. And it doesn’t that your friend is connected to internet or not. Many service providers around the world are catering for this service. Where social media creates worries sometimes parents, there it can create some interesting solutions as well. This is a real life story that happened with me and I am loving to write it here.

I am a person on who is on the move for quite a greater part of the day. If the work demands, I am moving during nights and late nights as well. Natural it is, that parents want to know where I am. This is parents love and care that we need to accept. But sometimes, it really gets difficult to inform about every spot and location. To people at my age, sometimes it looks embarrassing to make such calls in front of people around. This problem is even greater with teenagers, who consider them responsible enough.

As my on the go has increased suddenly again, I had to face the same communication issue. Last night I had to come back home late and had couple of stops at different places. As expected my mom wanted me to let her know about all my stops. This time I had an innovative solution. Though my mom is not a social media freak or a tech person yet she is quite good at operating computers. She jointly uses my father’s Facebook account to stay connected with the family. On her concern for me to inform her about my changing locations, I asked her if she knew how to access my Facebook profile through my father’s login. When she confirmed, I told a simple thing that where ever I go I would use social media and Check In on Facebook. I also explained that my other activity can also been see on social media as I update statuses and use Instagram quite a bit.

Viola! This worked and she understood a great dimension to social media. She was happy to know that when ever I out, she can simply look at my Check In and know where am I. Thanks to social media, for making communication so easy. I would suggest the readers to use social media to simplify their communications. Social media can serve as a great sigh of relief if used properly.
